Jackie Cheung will not play Sun Yat Sen in "Bodyguards and Assassins"

HONG KONG : Hong Kong singer Jacky Cheung will not play revolutionary leader Sun Yat Sen in upcoming movie "Bodyguards and Assassins", the film's production team announced on Wednesday.

Cheung, 48, will instead play revolutionary Yang Quyun who accompanied Sun when he returned to Hong Kong in 1894. His character will have little screen time and will sacrifice himself early in the film.

Produced by award-winning Hong Kong director Peter Chan, "Bodyguards and Assassins" is a story based on a group of bodyguards protecting Sun Yat Sen from assassins in 1905 Hong Kong.

Cheung's involvement in this film has been wrapped in so much secrecy that most of the main cast were not even aware of it. The production team also sealed off the set to shoot his scenes.

The film's director, Teddy Chen, said Cheung has decided to donate all his earnings from this film to charity.

Costing more than US$23 million (S$32 million) to produce, it features more than 10 well-known stars across China and Hong Kong, making it one of the most eagerly anticipated Asian movies at the end of the year.

The stellar cast includes Donnie Yen, Wang Xueqi, Tony Leung Ka-Fai, Nicholas Tse, Hu Jun, Leon Lai, Eric Tseng, Li Yuchun, Simon Yam, Fan Bingbing, Zhou Yun, Wang Po Cher, as well as a guest appearance from Michelle Reis.

"Bodyguards and Assassins" is set to hit the big screen in mid December.

Jacky to perform in F1 Rock in Singapore

Chinese pop legend Jacky Cheung will be joined by Chinese pop diva A-Mei, also known as the ‘Pride of Taiwan,’ for an exclusive performance at the opening night on Sept 24.

F1 Rocks Singapore with LG will be the first time that both artistes
will share the same stage on the same night.

Jacky has won numerous awards, including the RTHK Top 10 Gold Song Award, the Jade Solid Gold Award and is one of Time Magazine’s “25 most influential people in New
Hong Kong” and A-Mei won a staggering six awards at this year’s Metro Mandarin Awards. They will be joined by a whole host of exciting Asian artistes, including Sodagreen and Da Mouth.

Jacky at Gough Street in latest movie

Jacky Cheung, Nicholas Tse and Daniel Wu were in Gough Street, Central District filming "Burning Hot" directed by Ha Wing Hong yesterday. Wearing only a vest, Nicholas was the boss doing second hand air-conditioner business. Jacky and Daniel were the customers who were there to look for a bargain. They picked a pink air-conditioner and Jacky carried it away.


After typhoon "Crater" left Hong Kong, the weather was still very humid yesterday. Jacky was soaked and wet after carrying the air-conditioner a few times, and Nicholas who only wore shorts and vest was sweating too. THe crew kept spaying water to cool them down.


Jacky's manager Chan Suk Fen came to visit the cast. Reporter asked her what role is Jacky playing in the movie, She said Jacky plays the role as a father. There was a little girl with long hair, but it is not known if she is Jacky's daughter. Jacky was seen touching her head and her hair tenderly.
